The purpose of this classification is to perform technical tasks as a lead member of a crew on an assigned shift performing various maintenance, sanitation, landscape, and litter removal tasks in support of the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Alexandria.
Plans, organizes, trains and provides instruction and guidance as a lead member of a crew performing various maintenance, sanitation, landscape, and litter removal tasks in support of the Parks and Recreation Department on an assigned shift.
Monitors work in progress and ensures compliance with established standards; advises crews in techniques and practices; reviews reports; prepares requests for materials and supplies.
Maintains inventory of equipment, parts and supplies; orders materials and equipment needed for each job; perform routine safety inspections on equipment; advises supervisor of needed repairs.
Prepares and processes paperwork and reports as required by department policy and procedure; maintains files and employee records as required; reviews zoning maps and other documents to complete assigned tasks.
Oversees and participates in various sanitation and cleaning tasks to maintain City parks and facilities; removes trash; cleans restrooms; performs routine landscape and mowing tasks; applies grass seed and fertilizer; repairs playground equipment; sprays chemicals as directed.
Oversees and participates in ballpark maintenance tasks; drags and aerates fields; paints foul lines; replaces dirt; edges infield and outfield grass; chalks field lines; repairs fencing; trims trees; replaces bases; cuts sod along base paths, infields and warning tracks; installs plates, bases and pitching rubbers; relocates bleachers.
Repairs and maintains tennis courts; replaces nets and windscreens; vacuums and clears courts of debris; replaces flags, banners and scoreboard bulbs as needed.
Receives, reviews, analyzes and responds to difficult customer complaints or problems.
Operates a variety of equipment and machinery to complete tasks including a front-end loader, various lawnmowers, three-wheel drag, sander, pick-up truck, dump truck, chain saw, leaf blower, weed eater and related equipment; utilizes a measuring wheel, sod cutter, edger, roller, dirt spreader and basic hand tools.
High School diploma or GED; supplemented by three (3) years of experience in facility maintenance, general repair tasks, parks and grounds maintenance and routine landscape tasks and experience in the operation of equipment used in landscaping and grounds maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Will be required to obtain and maintain specialized certifications and/or training as deemed necessary. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana Class D driver’s license within 60 days of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
