Position Summary
Safely operate a paratransit vehicle using an assigned passenger schedule to determine route; pick up, transport, and drop off persons whose disabilities prevent them from using fixed-route bus service; work odd shifts, weekends, and special events.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Essential and Supplemental Functions
- Sign in and obtain appropriate schedule for assigned route; prepare vehicle by checking safety features, warming up engine, inspecting tie downs, wheelchair lifts, stanchion poles, first aid kits, and fire extinguishers and checking interior and exterior of van for damage.
- Ensure safety of the passengers; courteously assist passengers as requested or necessary; check van for lost articles and perform necessary good housekeeping duties.
- Report mechanical malfunctions on vehicle defect card; check other safety features periodically or at the end of the scheduled run.
- Submit required reports and other forms for accidents, injuries and incidents, lost articles or other situations as necessary.
- Perform radio dispatch and fixed-route duties as assigned.
- Respond to emergency transportation needs as required.
- Assist in the training of new drivers as necessary.
- Work odd shifts, weekends and special events.
- Perform other job related duties as necessary or assigned.
Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
- High School diploma or GED or successful completion of one (1) WorkKeys® Skills Assessments (listed below).
- Experience in driving an Americans with Disabilities (ADA) accessible vehicle is preferred.
- Graphic Literacy with a minimum score of Level 3
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Must pass physical exam and required drug testing and successfully complete Sun Van Chauffeur training.- Principles and practices of customer service

Essential and supplemental functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of time; frequent pushing and pulling motions, squatting (repeated), kneeling and stooping (repeated bending)moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; operation of large motorized vehicles.
