What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transit System Operator position at City of Albany, Georgia?
The purpose of this classification is to operate a transit system bus to safely transport passengers on an assigned route as directed.Drives transit system bus to transport passengers along assigned route; observes traffic safety rules; maintains transit schedules.
Greets boarding passengers; collects fares and transfers; ensures passengers enter and exit bus safely; provides information/directions; maintains order on bus; assists elderly and passengers with disabilities as needed.
Performs pre-trip inspections; sweeps bus daily and empties trash cans; fuels bus as directed.
Prepares accident reports, vehicle maintenance reports, and incident reports; maintains accurate passenger count; submits to supervisor.
Responds as appropriate to emergency situations or vehicle breakdowns.
Consults with other operators regarding transfers.
Operates two-way radio to provide information or receive advice/direction.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs other related duties as required.High school diploma or GED required; additionally, two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving bus driving required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s).Data Utilization: Requires the ability to determine, calculate, tabulate, or summarize data/information. Includes performing subsequent actions in relation to these computational operations.
Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others on how to apply procedures and standards to specific situations.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate and control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials requiring complex and rapid adjustments.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. May include counting, recording of counts and basic measuring.
