GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision of the Division Manager – Fleet Services, the Senior Tire and Lube Technician performs routine mechanical work associated with the preventive maintenance of mobile and stationary equipment. Duties include providing tire services and fluid lubrication services for a variety of vehicles and equipment. The position supports the safe and efficient operation of the fleet by completing basic inspections and maintenance tasks. This role may also maintain inventory items such as tires, filters, and oil to ensure adequate stock for fleet operations. Additionally, the position may assist with the distribution and delivery of various types of fuel used by City vehicles and equipment.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position may exercise technical supervision over lower-level staff.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Perform routine light maintenance on City-operated equipment, including tire and wheel repair or replacement, lubrication, and oil and filter services. Equipment serviced may include automobiles, tractors, diesel trucks, earthmoving equipment, and pavement construction equipment.
Inspect and service a variety of small gasoline engines and pumps.
Maintain lubrication records for all equipment. Order and track replacement parts and materials as needed. Issue fuel and oil and maintain accurate inventory records for supplies and equipment.
Respond to field service calls by operating service trucks to repair flat tires, boost equipment, and provide fueling and fluid services using mobile service units.
Test drive vehicles and equipment to verify repairs; recover disabled vehicles; and deliver vehicles and equipment to other repair facilities.
Assist customers with operating computerized fuel and oil dispensing systems, wash and vacuum vehicles, and respond to telephone or radio dispatch calls.
Perform maintenance of fuel valves located under pavement.
Inspect Fleet fuel tanks and pumps and report any conditions or compliance issues to the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor.
Handle waste oil and operate the oil filter crusher.
Operate a personal or City vehicle to complete City related tasks.

Knowledge of:
Tools, equipment, and procedures used in the maintenance of various vehicles and municipal equipment, including hand and power tools, mobile equipment components, and various sizes and types of tires.
Recordkeeping, inventory control, and purchasing procedures.
Safety practices and procedures used in equipment maintenance and tire repair.

Safely operate a motor vehicle.

Experience and Training Guidelines:
For positions with more than one level, all listed requirements at the lower levels are required at the higher levels. Experience:
Two (2) years of proven experience in mechanical maintenance work with a focus on vehicle servicing and tire repair for various sizes and types of mobile equipment is required.
Education/Training:
A high school diploma or GED is required.
License or Certificate:
A valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within one hundred eighty (180) days of employment is required.
A CDL HAZMAT and Tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain one within one hundred eighty (180) days of employment is required.
A Class A and B UST Facility Operator Certificate in accordance with Title 30, TAC 334 Subchapter N or the ability to obtain within ninety (90) days of employment is required.
