GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of the Facilities Supervisor and Facilities Division Manager to perform a variety of skilled tasks related to the maintenance, repair, and improvement of buildings, equipment, and grounds. This role ensures that all facilities are safe, functional, and well-maintained to support daily operations and long-term sustainability.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Facilities Maintenance Technician I
This position exercises no supervision.
Facilities Maintenance Technician II/III/SR
This position may function as lead over lower levels.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, etc.).
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing issues, and other building maintenance related issues.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
Assist with facility upgrades, renovations, and special projects.
Support emergency response efforts, including snow removal, storm cleanup, and urgent repairs.
Operate a personal or city vehicle.
OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES
Perform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Operate and use bucket trucks and other styles of lifts to 100’.
Safely operate a motor vehicle.
Safely use ladders up to 40’.
Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and machinery safely and effectively.
Safely work in hazardous conditions and around all electrical voltages with minimal.
Ability To:
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Read, write, and understand the English language and follow written and oral instructions.
Physically perform duties related to facilities maintenance.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Facilities Maintenance Technician I
Experience:
One (1) year of experience in technical trade (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, Building Maintenance, or Building Automation) is required.
Education/Training:
High school diploma or GED is required.
License Or Certificate:
A valid Texas driver’s license, the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment or a military waiver is required.
Facilities Maintenance Technician II
Experience:
Two (2) years of experience in one or more technical trade (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, Building Maintenance, or Building Automation) is required.
License Or Certificate:
Possession of an Apprentice Electrician, Registered HVAC technician license, or TSBPE Apprentice plumbing license through TDLR is required.
Facilities Maintenance Technician III
Experience:
Four (4) years of experience in one or more technical trade (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, Building Maintenance, or Building Automation) is required.
License Or Certificate:
Possession of a valid TDLR Certified HVAC Technician license with a EAP universal license; a building automation certification approved by the City; or another license or certification in a building maintenance trade that has been preapproved by the Director (e.g., fire alarm, backflow, locksmithing, pool certification, or an approved equivalent) is required.
Facilities Maintenance Technician Senior
Experience:
Five (5) years of experience in one or more technical trade (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, Building Maintenance, or Building Automation) is required.
License Or Certificate:
Possession of one (1) of the following license; a Journeyman or Masters electrical license through TDLR, Class “A” or “B” HVAC contractor’s license through TDLR, Master or Journeyman Plumbing through TSBPE, Locksmith license through DPS, or a universal EPA and can pass a City of Abilene assessment test and approved by the Director of Parks & Recreation is required.
Special Requirements:
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
Work evenings, nights, and weekends.
On-call rotation availability for emergencies is required and must be able to respond within thirty (30) minutes.
With or without accommodation, the “X” indicates the overall strength demand of the position during a typical workday:
