What are the responsibilities and job description for the Thrift Store Associate position at City Mission of Schenectady?
This person is expected to acknowledge and uphold the City Mission’s Statement of Faith. A Thrift Store Associate is responsible for working with customers, lifting and carrying donated / purchased items, clothes sorting operations, stocking, pricing and placing items for sale, making change for purchased items, etc. Basic communication and math skills are required. This person reports to the Clothing Operations Manager.

- Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with customers, donors, co-workers and supervisors.
- Sort and price donated items.
- Assist in loading and unloading the store’s truck.
- Routinely lift items that may weigh 30 pounds to occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Operate a cash register to ring up sales and to make proper change.
- The position may be expected to participate or conduct the counting out and reconciling of the cash drawer at the end of a shift or day.
- Greet customers and donors who are entering and leaving the store with a positive and hospitable manner.
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the Thrift Store: sweeping, mopping, dusting, arranging clothing racks and shelfs, etc.
- Must be a team player, a self- starter, and perform well with minimum supervision.
- Position requires basic communications with customers and other employees.
- Position may require the ability to operate a cash register must be able to make correct change for items sold.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Must be trainable and capable of performing essential duties.
- Valid NYS driver’s license
Salary : $17 - $22
