Certified Athletic Trainer
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree
- Must hold a valid NATABOC certification and be state licensure eligible
- Clinical experience in a variety of sports preferred
- CPR instructor preferred
- Willingness to participate as an ACI for the University of Iowa undergraduate athletic training education program
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director, Building Principal, Health Services Coordinator
JOB GOALS: The athletic trainer will plan, supervise, and implement components of an athletic training program for junior/ senior high school students in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct initial clinical evaluation of injuries and illnesses commonly sustained by participants in athletics
- Provide appropriate first aid and emergency care, according to accepted standards, for acute injuries/illnesses resulting from participation in athletics.
- Implement a comprehensive rehabilitation program, under the direction of the Health Services Coordinator and consulting physician, for injuries/illnesses sustained by participants in athletics.
- Assist in implementing a program for prevention of injury.
- Observe athletes for signs and symptoms of illnesses and initial referral when appropriate.
- Perform Approved Clinical Instructor (ACI) training through the University of Iowa and provide supervision of assigned undergraduate athletic training students.
- Communicate concerns regarding the health care of the athlete and the athletic training program to the Health Services Coordinator and Athletic Director.
- Other duties as assigned
