Computer Technician
Full-Time | Hourly | Monday-Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM | Immediate Opening
About Us
City eWaste is on a mission to reduce electronic waste by giving technology a second life. Every day, fully functional devices are thrown away, but we believe there's a better way. As a casual but fast-paced startup, we rescue, refurbish, and resell electronics, keeping valuable materials out of landfills and putting affordable technology back into the hands of people who need it.
We're looking for a hands-on Computer Technician to join our small, dedicated team and become our in-house expert on all things tech. This is a ground-floor opportunity to grow with us as an early team member, with a real path to leadership.
If you love variety, this role is for you. No two days look the same. You'll get hands-on experience with everything from vintage ThinkPads to high-end gaming rigs, and you'll see something new just about every day.
What You'll Do
- Triage and assess incoming Windows laptops, desktops, MacBooks, and other computational devices
- Perform minor refurbishment work including SSD and RAM replacement/installation
- Erase and factory reset MacOS devices using Recovery Mode or USB installation media
- Erase and factory reset Windows devices using USB or PXE boot (Windows 11 environment)
- Perform functional testing, diagnostics, and cosmetic condition assessments
- Create draft product listings on eBay using our in-house tools and programs
- Test, benchmark, and prepare GPUs for resale
- Test and list individual computer components such as CPUs on eBay
- Occasionally work with mobile devices and tablets
- Occasionally Interact with customers, receiving drop-off materials and processing payments
- Serve as the go-to technical resource for the team
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Working knowledge of Windows and MacOS operating systems
- Familiarity with computer hardware components (RAM, SSDs, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Comfortable interacting with customers in a friendly, professional manner
Nice to Have
- Certifications such as CompTIA A or similar
- Computer-related degree or coursework
- Experience with data destruction/wiping procedures
- Programming or coding experience
- Experience building, upgrading, or tearing down gaming PCs
- Knowledge of GPU models, specifications, and benchmarking tools
- Strong research and problem-solving skills
- Enthusiasm for AI and emerging technologies
