What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cafeteria Cashier/Kitchen Attendant position at City Charter High School?
Job Overview:
This position is an essential member of the City High School community. They are responsible for a wide range of tasks that include but are not limited to; managing a Point of Service system and cash reporting for breakfast and lunch, stocking, portioning and counting, and assisting the chefs with lunch service in any areas. The position requires extremely good communication skills and building positive relationships with teenage students and their families. Applicant must be able to maintain a fast paced physical working environment on weekdays, from 6am-2pm.
Reports to: Executive Chef, CEO, and Principals
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED. Must have customer service skills running a Point of Service system as well as basic computer skills. Must be willing to assist in simple kitchen tasks such as portioning, cleaning, and putting away dishes. Must be able to communicate effectively with teens. Server, cashier, and/or school cafeteria experience is a plus.
Essential Functions:
- · Set up for breakfast, run register POS for breakfast and lunch, count lunch money at the end of day, run end of day money transaction reports, run daily reports for lunch and breakfast counts.
- Stock, portion & count fruit and milk, put away clean dishes, clean when needed (end of trimester cleaning), assist chefs and cafeteria manager on projects like field trips and other events.
- Effectively communicate with students, families and staff in a timely manner.
- Coordinate updating student records with the Cafeteria Manager as needed.
- Responsible for maintaining a hygienic and orderly kitchen environment by adhering to sanitation protocols, sanitizing food prep surfaces, and deep cleaning kitchen appliances.
- Operate commercial dishwashing machinery according to safety procedures.
Experience
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be able to acquire PA school clearances: Patch, FBI fingerprinting, Child abuse certifications.
- Basic computer skills and able to be trained on Point of Service (POS) system and internal email/ticket system.
- Must have customer service skills.
- Must be able and willing to multitask and “wear many different hats” within a small team. The ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to lift 30lbs. and participate in food production daily.
- Excellent interpersonal “people” skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with students, families, and staff members.
- Must maintain six hours of annual mandatory training credits.
- Effective problem-solving skills; the ability to identify challenges and proactively work to find solutions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Training: Six hours of annual training in School Nutrition tool box to renew school’s application.

Salary and Benefits
$33,000 to $36,000 plus a generous benefits package including health insurance, paid time off, an attendance monetary incentive, a 401k retirement program (with matching contributions) and a 4-day school schedule that includes most Mondays off.
