As a Prep Cook, you will be responsible for the essential prep work that sets the foundation for our brunch bistro menu. You’ll assist in preparing ingredients, following recipes, and ensuring that the kitchen is ready for service. This role is perfect for individuals who take pride in their work and enjoy contributing to a collaborative and efficient kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare ingredients according to recipes and quality standards, including washing, chopping, slicing, and dicing vegetables, as well as measuring and portioning ingredients.
- Assist with prepping proteins, including portioning, marinating, and trimming meats and seafood.
- Prepare components for sauces, dressings, and other menu items as directed by the Executive Chef or Sous Chef.
- Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper storage, labeling, and dating of ingredients.
- Maintain a clean and organized prep area, ensuring all equipment and tools are properly sanitized and stored.
- Communicate effectively with the kitchen team, notifying the Sous Chef of any inventory needs or shortages.
- Assist in receiving and stocking deliveries, ensuring proper rotation of ingredients to minimize waste.
- Support the line cooks during service by replenishing ingredients and assisting with mise en place as needed.
- Contribute feedback on prep processes and assist with ideas for streamlining efficiency and reducing waste.
- Participate in the end-of-day cleanup, including washing utensils, cleaning prep surfaces, and organizing the walk-in and dry storage areas.
- Previous experience as a Prep Cook or in a similar role in a high-volume restaurant environment preferred.
- Strong knife skills and knowledge of basic cooking techniques.
- Familiarity with food safety and sanitation standards.
- Ability to work efficiently and maintain a sense of urgency in a fast-paced kitchen.
- Excellent communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
- High standards for cleanliness and organization.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs).
