Primary Purpose of Job & Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Monitors all vessels within municipal Harbors to ensure that vessels are authorized, maintains a computerized inventory, assigns temporary moorage to transient vessels registers transient vessels and advises owners of billing and payment procedures
- MonitorsallstructureswithinharborsandinformstheHarborMaintenanceSupervisorand/or Harbormaster of any serious maintenance needs.
- Notifies Harbormaster of all emergencies within the harbor system, including oil spills, boat fires, moorage or structure fires, sinking/sunken vessels, tsunami alerts/conditions and any evidence of major crimes.
- Maintains clean, orderly and safe floats and docks, including the removal and disposal of all debris material.
- MonitorsallstructureswithinharborsandinformstheHarborMaintenanceSupervisorand/or Harbormaster of any serious maintenance needs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Skill in the operation of boats is a plus.
- Ability to promote customer service within harbor operations.
- Ability to communicate well with others.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures and instructions
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, permits the employee to communicate effectively.
- Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to monitor operations within the harbor system.
- Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate vessels and perform harbor maintenance.
- Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, permits the employee to inspect all areas of the harbor system.
- Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or heavier weights with assistance or the use of proper equipment.
- Employees must possess the ability to walk several miles each day to perform necessary duties
- ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS: Employees work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, hazards, vibration, confined workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees are required to wear appropriate attire for the work assigned.
