Drive Departmentwide Initiatives as the Executive Assistant to the Medical Examiner!

The Department of the Medical Examiner is hiring for an Executive Assistant II in Honolulu! This key role serves as the principal assistant to the Medical Examiner and Deputy Medical Examiner, managing the department’s administrative activities, programs, and projects. The Executive Assistant II acts on behalf of leadership in their absence and has authority to implement initiatives, resolve operational issues, streamline processes, and improve overall service delivery.

What You'll Do

  • Executive Support: Assist and advise the Medical Examiner and Deputy on administrative and operational matters.
  • Correspondence Management: Prepare and respond to sensitive or complex inquiries.
  • Policy & Operations: Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and operational improvements.
  • Department Oversight: Monitor operations, identify improvements, and recommend changes.
  • Purchasing & Contracts: Manage department purchases, contracts, and agreements with BFS coordination.
  • Facility & Project Management: Oversee maintenance, permits, renovations, relocations, and leases.
  • Staff Supervision: Provide oversight to the Administrative Services Officer and designated staff.
  • Liaison & Representation: Represent the department in meetings and special projects with governmental and community organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Will serve as a Disaster Response worker during declared emergencies.

Education Requirement

Equivalent to graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with major work in public or business administration, political science, economics or a related field.

Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.

For Example

  • Four (4) years of professional work experience, in any occupation, may substitute for a general bachelor's degree.
  • Four years of general work experience (does not need to be professional level experience) in Human Resources /Personnel Management, Budget and Fiscal Management, or Management Analysis, may substitute for a general bachelor's degree.

The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at an accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

Experience Requirement

Four (4) years of responsible administrative experience in government or a large business organization.

Applicable Skills

  • Knowledge of governmental organization and functions.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of public administration, organization and management, and public relations.
  • Knowledge of administrative analysis.
  • Knowledge of governmental finance administration and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of statutes and ordinances relating to city government functions and operations.
  • Knowledge of pertinent Federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Ability to conduct studies on and prepare top level management recommendations relating to operations, organization, administrative standards, finance administration and budgeting.
  • Ability to coordinate varied and complex work programs.
  • Ability to analyze legal decisions, interpretations and directives.

Quality Of Experience

Having the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as qualifying for the position. Your overall experience must have been of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.

License Requirement

Appropriate valid driver's license, as required.
