Position Information
The Department of Parks and Recreation, Park Maintenance and Recreation Services Division, is looking for Power Mower Operator-Grounds Keepers to fill the following vacancies:
- One (1) vacancy assigned to the Middle Street to Aiea High School area
- One (1) vacancy assigned to the Wahiawa-Mililani and Aiea-Pearl City-Halawa Area
A Power Mower Operator-Grounds Keeper helps maintain parks and landscaped areas through mowing, groundskeeping, facility upkeep, and equipment operation. Work involves operating passenger-type power mowers and other motorized equipment, maintaining park grounds and comfort stations, identifying hazardous conditions, and assisting with minor maintenance and repairs.
What You'll Do
- Operate and maintain power mowing equipment, including a Turfcat 72” mower, to mow and maintain park lawns and landscaped areas across assigned park sites.
- Perform grounds maintenance duties such as trimming, weeding, planting, watering, raking, and maintaining lawns, fields, sidewalks, and landscaped areas.
- Maintain park facilities and equipment, including cleaning restrooms and recreation buildings, making minor repairs, and assisting maintenance and trades personnel as needed.
- Monitor park grounds and facilities for safety and compliance, reporting hazards, vandalism, or rule violations while assisting park users and verifying facility permits.
- Work schedule is from 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., with hours and end times varying depending on the vacancy.
- May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs.
- This position will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared emergencies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At the time of application, you must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Some experience and/or training in the repair or operation of passenger-type power mowers or similar motorized equipment.
Must be able to:
- Safely operate and maintain passenger-type power mowers and basic landscaping equipment.
- Perform routine lawn and landscape maintenance for public facilities.
- Identify hazards and follow safety practices while performing outdoor work.
- Follow instructions, work efficiently, and handle physical tasks such as lifting and moving materials.
- Possession of a valid Hawaii State driver's license (Type 3/automobile), as required.
- Obtain and maintain from the City’s Health Services Branch a Hearing Conservation Program (HCP) test, prior to appointment.
