Position Information
The Department of Parks and Recreation, Park Maintenance and Recreation Services Division has three (3) vacancies for Park Caretaker II in the Honolulu area. As a Park Caretaker II, you will work to beautify, maintain and care for our parks and facilities by performing a variety of semi-skilled and manual work tasks, with an emphasis on semi-skilled work in the development, repair, maintenance and beautification of parks and recreational areas. You are expected to have:
- a higher level of horticultural knowledge (e.g. turf management) compared to other general grounds maintenance activities;
- a variety of semi-skilled tasks with the repair and maintenance of park facilities and structures (e.g. minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, sprinkler repair and installation, etc.); and
- the knowledge and skills to conduct large-scale mowing activities including the operation, repair and maintenance of tractor type mowers comparable to those operated by the Tractor Mower Operator class.
Special Working Conditions: Work hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., but is subject to change and may be required to work nights, weekends and holidays. Positions also will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared emergencies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in manual labor and semi-skilled tasks in the care, maintenance and beautification of landscaped areas; performance of semi-skilled or skilled building or mechanical trades experience; and/or operation or repair of passenger and/or tractor type mowers.
Applicable experience must have demonstrated:
- Knowledge of and ability to identify, care for and cultivate plants, shrubs, flowers, trees, ground cover and lawns;
- Knowledge of and ability to operate hand and power equipment and tools and grounds and general construction equipment and tools;
- Knowledge of common methods and materials used in simple construction and maintenance work;
- Ability to perform heavy manual work in the repair and maintenance of buildings and park grounds;
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
- Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the general public;
- Ability to learn pertinent laws, rules and regulations and enforce them;
- Ability to make simple oral and written reports.
- Valid Hawaii State driver's license (Type 3/automobile), prior to appointment;
- Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Examiner's Certificate, prior to appointment;
- Hearing Conservation Program (HCP) Test, prior to appointment.
