Furlough Days

The City and County of Denver has announced furlough days, or unpaid days off, for most employees to meet a budget shortfall in 2025. There are two fixed furlough days for all limited (temporary positions with an end date) and unlimited (permanent) employees on August 29th, the Saturday before Labor Day, and November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. If you receive an offer for this position, your annual pay will determine whether you are required to take additional furlough days. Details will be discussed during the offer process for selected candidate(s).

What You'll Do

Reporting to the Volunteer Program Manager within Customer Service, the Program Coordinator is a key member of the Customer Service Team. This position will support the Manager in the oversight of DENs Ambassador Volunteer Program, Teen Navigator Program and Canine Airport Therapy Squad (CATS). The Ambassador Volunteer Program has nearly 300 volunteers, fulfilling over 40,000 hours annually, while providing wayfinding and airport related guidance to customers at DEN. The Teen Navigator Program is coming into its 4th year, and it supports 15-18 year old high school students with the opportunity to gain volunteer experience while learning about the aviation industry. The CATS therapy animal program currently has 136 teams that visit the airport with their dogs and one feline, providing stress relief to customers at DEN.

The Program Coordinator will be responsible for daily volunteer operations, to include tracking, documenting and reporting of volunteer hours. Additionally, the Program Coordinator will be responsible to develop, oversee, and administer the recruitment and training of new volunteers in the Ambassador and CATS Program, while also providing enhanced training opportunities to existing volunteers through briefings, additional training, tours, and monthly meetings.

  • Supports the Ambassador and CATS programs, by writing, reviewing and updating program policy and procedures, guiding documents, operational guidelines, briefing and customer support documents
  • Explains policies, processes, applicable laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines specific to a program to volunteers
  • Ensures all volunteer activities are managed in the online database called Volgistics and utilizes the system to run reports on program performance.
  • Resolves problems, functions as an information clearinghouse for program questions, and provides information and advice to current and potential program participants on program issues and requirements
  • Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the volunteers are supporting the overall DEN operation. Follows up on any action items as needed
  • Ability to resolve problems encountered during daily operations and determine appropriate solutions
  • Reviews program operations for compliance, identifies program strengths and weaknesses, recommends solutions, and instructs individuals and groups on proper methods and procedures for compliance with program regulations
  • Assists with the recruitment process which includes hosting open houses, conducting interviews, facilitating background checks and conducting training orientation whether in person or digitally
  • Develops continuing education training for the volunteers and is able to present and share the training across the volunteer program
  • Collects feedback from the volunteers through multiple sources to collect information on the quality of the program and volunteer satisfaction
  • Contributes to the development of the performance enhancement plan, documents performance of volunteers and provides performance feedback
  • Participates at DEN and off- site events to promote programs within the community and support local events
  • Assists in the development of the program budget, and other duties as assigned which can include supporting the Customer Service Department or other DEN operations


Location and Schedule

  • This position requires in-person reporting to Denver International Airport. Employee parking is provided.
  • The role consists of five 8-hour shifts per week, totaling a 40-hour work week. Specific schedules will be determined at a later time but will include one weekend day.
  • Denver International Airport operates 24/7/365. In the event of staffing challenges, severe weather, or emergency situations, all DEN employees may be required to work extended overtime hours and/or alternative shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Work schedules are subject to change based on the needs of the organization.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Experience: Five (5) years of technical or administrative experience performing standard research and evaluation, case management, and/or implementing work processes
  • Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of education may be substituted for each required year experience


FBI Background Check

FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.

Shift Work, Snow Duties, and Emergency Incidents

Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If staffing challenges arise, weather conditions warrant, or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees will be required to work extended hours and/or alternative shifts (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
