About Our Job At the time of this posting, the City and County of Denver requires all employees to be present in the office at least three days per week. CASR has limited seating and thus has received an exemption; CASR employees are required to be present in the office two days per week. The Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency’s (CASR) mission is to act with urgency to proactively mitigate climate change. Our objectives are to advance science-based strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on a scale and timeline that align with the recommendations from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, cultivate resiliency in the face of potential climate change-related emergencies, secure an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable city for generations to come, and ensure that the setting of goals and metrics and monitoring of results considers equity. Climate Adaptation and Resiliency, as part of the Climate Action Division, develops new programs, strategies, and partnerships to enable the significant shifts needed in ecological, social, and economic systems to respond to permanent changes in our climatic system. A key priority in this work is to help vulnerable communities adapt and respond to these climate impacts. The Climate Action Division has an opening for a Climate Resiliency Senior Specialist. As such, the position will engage with vulnerable communities to help prepare these communities to be more resilient. Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Engage with climate vulnerable people and communities to build trust, co-create solutions and define meaningful, tangible and direct benefits to residents Help develop long range and short-term planning initiatives for adaptation and resiliency as part of a larger update to Denver’s climate action plan Act as a technical expert by analyzing policies related to community resilience Brief management on concerns and issues by providing information required for decision making. Positively represent CASR in our community, at public meetings, conferences, and other events as needed. Administers the financial operations of a program. Develop culturally appropriate outreach and education. Other tasks as required. Our ideal candidate will have a combination of the following: Bachelor’s Degree in any field or a combination of education and experience meeting the minimum qualifications below Knowledge and experience in climate adaptation and resiliency, emergency management, or community organizing. Experience in and knowledge of the intersections between climate change and social vulnerability. An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on under-resourced communities, along with the desire to incorporate perspectives of multiple communities. Experience Requirement: Five (5) years’ experience performing full performance professional level duties within a specialized, functional area. (This does not include clerical experience.) Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements. License/Certifications: None.
