General Statement of Duties / Distinguishing Features of the Class
The Volleyball Scorekeeper is responsible for accurately recording and maintaining the official score and related statistics during volleyball matches. This role plays a key part in ensuring the integrity of the game by closely monitoring the progress of each set and match and maintaining clear communication team personnel.
Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)
- Record all points, timeouts, and other relevant match details using the official score sheet and electronic scoring system.
- Knowledge of the “Rally Point” scoring system.
- Knowledge of the B-SB Parks & Recreation Volleyball Rules and Code of Conduct.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with players when needed.
- Assemble volleyball net and prepare the score table before matches begin and disassemble after last match.
- Remain attentive and focused throughout the entire match.
- Monitor other activities in the Civic Center Annex.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Experience, Training, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of volleyball rules and scoring procedures (training may be provided).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to stay calm and focused in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Dependable and punctual.
- Previous experience in scorekeeping or officiating (preferred but not required).
Required Special Qualifications:
- Must possess a current Montana Driver’s license or have the ability to obtain one within a reasonable period of time after employment.
- Must be a resident of Butte-Silver Bow during employment according to Butte-Silver Bow Ordinance. See below.
From and after October 1, 1979, all employees of the local government of Butte-Silver Bow shall be bona fide residents within the boundaries of Butte-Silver Bow during the period of their employment by the government of Butte-Silver Bow.

Essential Physical Abilities
- Physical requirements include the ability to sit, stand, walk and the ability to conduct activities involving climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling/bending, crouching, crawling, twisting, and reaching as they are used daily on a moderate to substantial basis. This position must have the physical abilities to grasp and manipulate office equipment as well as tools, equipment and materials used in enforcement situations. The position requires the occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds to assist in removal of refuse when violators cannot be identified.
