What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatic Group Fitness Instructor position at City and County of Butte-Silver Bow, MT?
We are seeking an enthusiastic and certified Aquatic Fitness Instructor to lead engaging group fitness classes for community members. This role supports our mission to promote health, wellness, and active lifestyles through group fitness programming.
- Assists in developing and implementing safe, fun and effective aquatic fitness programs.
- Maintains attendance records and report class feedback to the Recreation Coordinator and Ridge Waters Manager.
- Follows all lifeguard instructions and verify participant compliance with signed waivers.
- Reviews and adjusts instruction to meet the needs of participants, to continue to grow and provide quality fitness programs.
- Sets up and take down equipment before and after classes.
- Ensures participant’s safety by demonstrating proper techniques and providing modifications when needed.
- Monitors facility and surrounding area to ensure safe and proper conduct; reports safety and hazard concerns to supervisors or lifeguards.
- Assists in promoting programs through flyers, social media, and community outreach.
- Follows all department policies and emergency procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant coursework in fitness, health, or recreation is a plus.
- Certified Aquatic Aerobics Instructor – preferred.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain.
- Willingness to learn water rescue basics and assist lifeguards in water-related emergencies.
- Experience teaching fitness classes in a community or recreation setting preferred; audition required unless previously evaluated.
- Strong communication, leadership and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Work Environment:
- Aquatic classes will be taught at Ridge Waters Water Park (seasonal).
- Physical demands include standing, lifting, and demonstrating exercises for extended periods.
Required Special Qualifications
- Possession of a valid Montana driver’s license.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be a resident of Butte-Silver Bow during employment according to Butte-Silver Bow Ordinance. See below.
- 2.08.010 Residence during employment. From and after October 1, 1979, all employees of the local government of Butte-Silver Bow shall be bona fide residents within the boundaries of Butte-Silver Bow during the period of their employment by the government of Butte-Silver Bow. (Ord. 85 § 1, 1979)”
