This position serves as an on-call substitute supporting the Senior Services congregate lunch program and Meals on Wheels. Substitutes provide coverage for staff absences, including vacations and sick leave, helping ensure continuity of essential services for older adults in the community.

Work hours vary based on program needs. On average, substitutes work approximately 10–12 hours per month during the spring, fall, and winter, and up to 30 hours per month during the summer (June–August), totaling roughly 200 hours annually. Shifts are typically scheduled Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., with occasional same-day call-ins to cover open shifts.

This is a temporary, non-benefited position.

This position includes a free recreation center pass

Salary Range: $23.34 – $31.58 per hour

This role is responsible for supporting a variety of food service operations, including meal preparation, service, and cleanup for Meals on Wheels, the Lakeshore Café, and special events serving adults age 60 . Duties also include room setup and breakdown, as well as general cleaning and maintenance of program spaces.

The incumbent plays an important role in creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants. Responsibilities include following all City and County of Broomfield policies and procedures, adhering to Health Department regulations, maintaining food safety standards, and providing excellent customer service and support to participants, staff, and the public.

General Duties:
  • Assists in cooking, preparation and assembling meals for various food service programs such as Meals on Wheels

  • Operates commercial dishwasher: rinse, load, wash and put away dishes, pots and pans, and utensils 

  • Uses and maintains kitchen tools, commercial equipment and food preparation areas

  • Maintains food storage areas, for both refrigerated and non-refrigerated foods, according to county health standards and divisional standards

  • Maintains a cleaning schedule for the facility, equipment, and sanitation levels as required by the county health department 

  • Assists with tracking daily food service program information

  • May cover kitchen staff shifts as needed

Education

  • High school diploma or GED - required

Experience  
  • 6 months experience required in maintenance/cleaning and food preparation in a commercial kitchen environment.
Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however  education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS;
New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry. 
If this position is required to drive a CCOB vehicle a DMV check will be required. This position requires a kitchen skills assessment.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record for continued employment.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Operating an automobile may be required to perform some occasional duties.
  • Work requires indoor and may require some outdoor activities.
