The Contractor Services/Inspection Specialist provides contractors and the public with information regarding construction inspections and ensures that inspections, power releases, and certificates of occupancy are completed and issued in a timely and proper manner.

The schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM and is located in Lecanto, Florida.

  • Interacts with customers via telephone to resolve questions and problems regarding inspections and other issues.
  • Performs routine office duties including, but not limited to, preparing, maintaining files and records, typing correspondence, and filing.
  • Schedules inspections.
  • Processes and issues certificates, affidavits, and license renewals.
  • Performs research to establish eligibility for permits and certificates and to answer inquiries.
  • Operates two-way radio.
  • Interacts with contractors to resolve questions and problems regarding inspections.
  • Performs technical work informing contractors of federal, state, and local ordinances, codes, and policies.
  • Creates and maintains electronic files.
  • Conducts problem solving activities for contractors, customers, and fellow employees.
  • Generates daily reports for scheduled inspections, and monthly reports for administration of scheduled inspection totals.
  • Issues Certificate of Occupancy and Completion Letters. Issues final and temporary power releases to power providers.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Education, Training, And Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience in administrative support, permitting, construction inspection services, or a related field.
  • Experience working with building inspections or construction permitting processes preferred

Skills And Abilities

  • Excellent customer service skills, communication skills and strong attention to detail required.
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures. Ability to type and compose routine business letters and memorandum.
  • Must have strong organizational skills to plan, prioritize, multi-task and independently execute projects/tasks within specific deadlines while maintaining flexibility.
  • Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).

Certificates, Licenses, and Registration

  • Valid Florida Driver License (or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida), or valid Florida Identification Card is acceptable only for positions not required to drive a county vehicle.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:

  • IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and

  • IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Requires sitting most of the time.
  • The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds.
  • The job requires frequent balancing, and occasional bending, squatting, and reaching above shoulders.
  • The job requires the completion of tasks that involve typing, simple grasping, and fine manual manipulation.
  • The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, color vision, hearing, and speaking.

Emergency Response/Recovery Activities

  • All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens. Emergency response duties may also include driving and/or operating a county vehicle or equipment and employees must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
