As a Director in our Financial Services Tax practice, you will play a critical leadership role in delivering exceptional client service, developing our professionals, and driving the continued growth of one of the firm's most strategic practice areas.

We are seeking an experienced Financial Services Tax Director to lead complex client engagements across the alternative investment industry, including private equity funds, hedge funds, venture capital funds, management companies, family offices, and related investment structures. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic client advisory, business development, and team leadership responsibilities.

Position Overview

As a Financial Services Tax Director, you will serve as a trusted advisor to clients, helping them navigate increasingly complex tax regulations, reporting requirements, and business challenges. You will lead large and sophisticated engagements, provide strategic tax consulting and planning, cultivate executive-level client relationships, and contribute to the continued expansion of the Financial Services practice.

Key Responsibilities

Client Leadership & Strategic Advisory

• Serve as the lead relationship executive on multiple Financial Services client engagements.
• Advise clients on complex tax matters affecting investment funds, management companies, general partners, portfolio investments, and high-net-worth stakeholders.
• Deliver proactive tax planning, consulting, and compliance solutions that align with client objectives and mitigate risk.
• Provide guidance on evolving tax legislation, regulatory developments, and industry trends impacting the alternative investment industry.
• Collaborate with clients' management teams, legal counsel, administrators, and other advisors to address strategic business and tax considerations.
  
  

Technical Excellence & Engagement Oversight

• Oversee the review and delivery of complex partnership, corporate, and individual tax returns, workpapers, and tax projections.
• Lead tax research efforts and develop practical solutions for technical and compliance matters.
• Ensure the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of client deliverables while maintaining compliance with professional and regulatory standards.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, and enhance engagement profitability.
  
  

Practice Growth & Business Development

• Drive business development initiatives and support the growth of the Financial Services Tax practice.
• Develop and strengthen relationships with existing clients, referral sources, and industry professionals.
• Identify new service opportunities, emerging market needs, and cross-selling opportunities across the firm.
• Represent Citrin Cooperman at industry conferences, networking events, and professional organizations.
• Contribute thought leadership through industry presentations, articles, webinars, and client-facing content.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or related field.
• CPA or CPA eligibility.
• 10 years of progressive public accounting experience, with significant experience serving financial services clients.
• Strong technical knowledge of partnership taxation, investment fund structures, and alternative investment vehicles.
• Demonstrated experience managing complex client engagements and leading cross-functional teams.
• Proven ability to build and maintain executive-level client relationships.
• Exceptional written, verbal, analytical, and presentation skills.
• Strong project management and organizational capabilities.
