Position Summary 

The Government Relations Senior Associate is a key supporting member of the Government Relations team. Reporting to the Director of Government Relations, this position plays a central role in maintaining legislative tracking systems, supporting congressional engagement, organizing internal and external advocacy materials, and coordinating logistics for policy-related events. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, proactive, and collaborative, with exceptional project management experience and the ability to coordinate multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment. This role requires prior experience working in or directly with a congressional office or congressional committee on Capitol Hill, with a strong understanding of legislative processes and stakeholder engagement.


Responsibilities 

Policy Development & Legislative Analysis 

  • Support department leadership in developing and enhancing CRES’s federal policy platform. 
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on emerging legislation, regulations, and policy developments to provide actionable insights to the CRES team. 
  • Assist in the internal review and support of federal energy legislation. 
  • Provide insights for hearings, markups, and related legislative activities to elevate CRES’s branding and credibility. 


Relationship & Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Support leadership in building and maintaining professional relationships with policymakers and staff to gather legislative intelligence and advance priority legislation. 
  • Collaborate with the Communications Team to track and amplify relevant congressional hearings, member statements, and press releases. 
  • Work cross-departmentally to support strategic priorities and educational activities with congressional and external stakeholders. 


Content & Materials Development 

  • Research and prepare policy content and briefing products, including issue briefs, one-pagers, bill summaries, talking points, letters, action alerts, internal memos, and related materials. 


Information & Systems Management 

  • Manage tracking systems and monitoring tools to track committee activities, congressional hearings, and stakeholder engagement touchpoints. 
  • Maintain accurate records, summaries, and reporting to support internal and external decision-making.

 

Event & Project Coordination 

  • Assist in the execution of cross-department deliverables, including educational events, briefings, policy rollouts, and other government relations activities. 


Grant & Compliance Support 

  • Ensure adherence to government relations grant deliverables. 
  • Assist in the development of new grant proposals, scopes of work, and related activities. 


Perform other duties as assigned. 


Required Skills & Attributes 

  • Experience working in or with a congressional office or congressional committee on Capitol Hill (House or Senate
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. 
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to synthesize information and draft concise summaries. 
  • Team-oriented, resourceful, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. 


Education and Experience 

  • Strong project management and workflow coordination experience. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, environmental studies, economics, or a related field. 
  • Work experience in legislative, policy, government affairs, or advocacy settings preferred. 
  • Familiarity with congressional structure and legislative processes is a plus. 


Compensation & Competitive Benefits 

This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $70,000 – $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
