Job Summary
Responsible for the leading the design, testing, and certification of complex safety-critical electrical and computer systems for FAA certified single engine aircraft. Develop subsystem and hardware module requirements from high-level design objectives. Perform design and analysis of all aspects of aircraft electrical and avionics computer system hardware and related interactions with aircraft systems and avionics equipment. Coordinate design, development, and system integration with subcontractors and suppliers. Generate certification plans and reports to meet 14 CFR Part 23 requirements.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Direct reports include individual contributors, DER/RCEs, and supervisors.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
The Manager of Electrical Systems Engineering will lead a team responsible for the design, integration, and certification of electrical and computing systems across Cirrus Aircraft programs. This includes managing the full development lifecycle, from requirements definition through system integration and certification.
Key duties include:
- Lead requirements definition, traceability, verification, and installation of electrical equipment in accordance with FAA Part 23 and foreign certification requirements.
- Analyze and interpret technical specifications for aircraft equipment, software, components, and systems to ensure proper integration into aircraft platforms.
- Guide electrical equipment through certification processes, including generation of certification documentation and direct engagement with regulatory authorities.
- Own the design and certification of High-Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF) and lightning protection systems.
- Lead design and certification efforts for aircraft power generation and distribution systems.
- Oversee circuit card assembly (CCA) design and certification activities.
- Identify and evaluate potential solutions and technologies from subcontractors and external suppliers.
- Coordinate internal and external development and integration activities, ensuring alignment with program goals and timelines.
- Provide oversight of system architecture and safety assessments to meet performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
- Define, execute, and troubleshoot integration testing (both on-aircraft and in test benches), ensuring test coverage aligns with requirements.
- Develop and maintain engineering processes that support consistent execution and high-quality technical outcomes.
- Lead the development and operation of the Integrated Systems Test Laboratory to support testing, validation, and innovation initiatives.

Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience) required.
- 10 years total relevant experience
- 4 years leadership experience
Experience in the following preferred:
- Leading teams of 10 or more engineers working on multiple complex projects.
- Previous certification experience with standards such as 14 CFR Part 23.
- Process development experience (Six Sigma Green belt or others).
- Process mapping and deployment experience (VSM).
- Use of design tools such as CREO, MATLAB, VBA, or similar programs.
- Requirements Management tool experience (PTC Integrity, Doors, Jama, or equivalent).
- Change Management and Configuration Management tool experience (JIRA, Windchill, Clearquest, Clearcase, or equivalent).
- Equipment Environmental qualification (DO-160) experience.
- Pilot or Ground School experience preferred.
Demonstrated Proficiencies/Skills/Abilities:
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to read, write and speak the English language
- Ability to work both independently and within a cross-functional team
- Ability to efficiently learn new skills and manage multiple tasks
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint)
