Full-Time Position

Tour Dates: November 2026 - December 2026

About The Role

Blue Man Group, part of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Lighting Technician for the 2026 A New Holiday Surprise Touring production.

The Assistant Lighting Technician supports the Head of Lighting in maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting all lighting systems and related electrical equipment used in the show. This role ensures that the creative integrity, visual quality, and technical precision of the production are upheld across all tour stops. The position may also step in as a swing, supporting other departments—including Video, Carpentry, and Props and wardrobe —when coverage is needed.

Key Responsibilities

Lighting Operations and Maintenance

  • Assist with the setup, focus, programming, and operation of all lighting systems, fixtures, and electrical practicals.
  • Support the Head of Lighting in ensuring that all lighting cues, effects, and looks are executed accurately and consistently across performances.
  • Perform daily checks, maintenance, and cleaning of lighting fixtures, consoles, and cabling.
  • Execute general repair, maintenance, and restock of consumables and electrical supplies as required.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve lighting or electrical issues quickly to minimize performance disruption.
  • Maintain show documentation, cue sheets, and follow-up notes as directed by the Head of Lighting.
  • Ensure safe rigging, handling, and use of all lighting and electrical equipment.

Show Operations and Touring Support

  • Execute assigned running tracks during performances, including preset, cue execution, turnovers, and post-show duties.
  • Participate in all lighting-related load-ins, focuses, and loadouts, ensuring efficient and safe setup and teardown.
  • Collaborate with other technical departments to ensure integration of lighting, video, and scenic elements.
  • Adapt lighting setups as needed for venue-specific dimensions and rigging capabilities.
  • Provide lighting support for special events, press appearances, and promotional performances as required.

Technical Swing and Collaboration

  • May serve as a technical swing to support other departments—including Video, Carpentry, Props and Wardrobe —when additional coverage is needed.
  • Communicate effectively with department heads, Stage Management, and local crews to maintain smooth operations.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful backstage environment that supports safety, professionalism, and teamwork.

Safety and Compliance

  • Champion and enforce all Blue Man Group and CDSEG health and safety policies in all lighting and electrical operations.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, ANSI, and local safety standards.
  • Ensure all rigging, cabling, and power distribution systems are operated safely and securely.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture that prioritizes the well-being of performers, crew, and venue staff.

Key Attributes

  • Proactive, reliable, and detail-oriented.
  • Calm and confident under pressure with strong troubleshooting ability.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Safety-focused, organized, and adaptable to changing environments.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to maintaining high production standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in theatrical or live event lighting.
  • Strong working knowledge of intelligent fixtures, dimming systems, and power distribution.
  • Familiarity with GrandMA lighting consoles required.
  • Experience with rigging, truss systems, and safe work practices at height.
  • Ability to read and follow lighting plots, circuit schedules, and cue sheets.
  • Experience troubleshooting DMX and network-based control systems.
  • Touring experience strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work safely at height.
  • Must be able to travel domestically for extended periods (Nov 2026–Dec 2026) and maintain eligibility for U.S. employment and travel.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt touring contract offering a competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus benefits during active tour periods.
