What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communications Director position at Circular CRV Association?
The Communications Director leads all Circular CRV Association (CCRV) communications efforts on behalf of the Dealer Cooperative and helps CCRV clearly explain its mission, services, and impact to the community, retailers, and recycling partners. The Communications Director is essential to the successful management of CCRV’s messaging across all media channels. This role combines strategic planning to support compliance requirements and strengthen CCRV’s presence across California through its customer-facing name, “Recycle Depot.”

Summary of Responsibilities (not comprehensive of all tasks):
- In collaboration with the Executive Director, executes a comprehensive strategic marketing and communications plan to strengthen and advance CCRV and Recycle Depot’s brand and mission.
- Develops and maintains marketing and communication materials, including website, newsletter, social media, decks, one-sheets, and all CCRV and Recycle Depot’s printed materials.
- Liaises with third-party agencies and vendors, including marketing, web development, and digital media agencies.
- Ensures all of CCRV’s visual and written communications are consistent and accurately communicate the Dealer Cooperative’s Mission.
- Monitors analytics across all digital marketing efforts to optimize outreach and performance.
- Supports CCRV and Recycle Depot community and industry outreach events.
- Supports the creation of public-facing compliance education, FAQs, guides, and announcements on complex regulatory and operational information into accessible and ADA-compliant materials.
- Produce consistent, accurate messaging for the community, retailers, and recycling partners.
- Develop, manage, and implement education tools that help Californians understand how and where to redeem CRV material in order to receive back their deposit.
- Provide recycling partners with branded materials to support their redemption site visibility and engagement (e.g., tents, flyers, signage)
- Oversee outreach efforts to assess needs, program effectiveness, the effect of these on redemption rates at sites within CCRV’s redemption network.
- Analyze data, identify trends, and prepare reports for stakeholders, outlining success rates, areas for improvement, and challenges.
- Draft the annual Communications budget for review and approval by the Executive Director.
- Successfully execute all elements of the Communications and outreach campaigns within the defined annual budget.
- Partner with the Grant Officer to identify alternative sources of grant funding to augment CCRV’s outreach budget.

Employment Standards/Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in sustainability, marketing, business, communications, and/ or a closely related field.
- An advanced degree in a relevant field is desirable.
Experience:
- 5–7 years in communications, marketing, or other related work—experience in retail, sustainability, or nonprofit sectors strongly preferred.
Skills:
- Strong digital communications and social media management experience.
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or equivalent tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other office software.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Strong planning, organization, and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present effectively.
- Desire to learn about the CRV recycling ecosystem and understand the Dealer Cooperative to enhance communication and operational efficiency.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Employees may occasionally experience prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at a time.
- Traditional office environment but may require nonstandard workplaces.
- At times, will work evenings, weekends, and overtime hours to accommodate activities such as task deadlines, Board meetings, and representing the organization at public events.
Pay: $120,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
