Construction Inspector

Responsibilities and Duties:

· Serve as the county representative on highway construction projects, both roadway and bridge

· Have knowledge of and understanding of highway construction methods, including earthwork, paving, bridge construction, etc.

· Have knowledge of and understanding of the properties of the various construction materials that are used on highway construction projects

· Accurately interpret the project plans and specifications

· Perform construction materials field sampling and testing to ensure compliance with the project plans and specifications, including nuclear density testing for earthwork and asphalt paving

· Understand the relationship between county officials, Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) representatives, prime or general contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, local constituents, etc.

· Communicate with county officials, ODOT representatives, contractors, material testing laboratories, local constituents, other state agencies, etc.

· Perform measurements and calculations to accurately account for completed work

· Complete applications for payment through the designated agency utilizing their required process (e.g., AASHTO - AWP - Construction Management System)

· Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of completed work, material certifications, quantities, possible deductions, materials on hand, field discussions and changes, etc.

· Maintain a working knowledge of and ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local statutes and ordinances, including but not limited to environmental, safety, Americans with Disabilities Act regulations

· Obtain and maintain any required certifications for the inspection of highway construction

· Maintain a valid standard Oklahoma driver’s license

Qualifications and Skill:

· A minimum of two years of experience in highway construction inspection preferred.

· Knowledge of material sampling and testing with possession of or the ability to obtain the Oklahoma highway construction materials technician certification

· Preferred have used AASHTO AWP for documenting project progress, payment processing, material certifications, etc.

· Capable of performing basic to intermediate mathematical calculations to determine areas and volumes to be used in the development of pay applications (estimates)

· Physical capabilities to lift and operate material sampling and testing equipment and to obtain material samples

· Proficient in the use of a computer with the Microsoft Windows operating system and Microsoft Office 365 productivity suite

· Ability to perform clear and professional written and verbal communication

Job Types: Part-time, Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $34.00 per hour
