Circles of Care, a private social services agency, is in need of a full-time Family Support Specialist for its Family and Youth Success (FAYS) program in Nueces, Jim Wells, and Kleberg Counties. This person is responsible for providing preventative services, skills development, and guidance to families and youth experiencing stress, conflict, or behavioral challenges. The position is supervised by a Program Supervisor.

Primary Responsibilities

Family Support & Guidance

  • Provide family and youth counseling and support to families under stress and youth experiencing behavioral problems, truancy, and runaway.
  • Facilitate parenting classes and youth groups using evidence-based curricula.
  • Complete comprehensive assessments on clients and families to identify psychosocial and economic needs.
  • Develop tailored treatment/action plans with families and monitor, evaluate, and document progress.
  • Evaluate the need for emergency care and facilitate respite placements when necessary.
  • Provide case management services to youth placed in respite care.

Community Engagement & Growth

  • Engage in internal and external public relations to promote the well-being of youth and families through community education and outreach.
  • Create and maintain collaborative relationships with schools, justice officials, and community partners.
  • Advocate for the needs of persons served and facilitate referrals to external support resources.

General

  • Maintain accurate, clinical-grade client records and submit documentation according to strict contract deadlines.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in case consultations as required.
  • Complete required pre-service and annual training, including the Strengthening Families curriculum.
  • Perform general office tasks and special projects as deemed necessary.
  • Maintain strict compliance with FAYS contract requirements and internal policy.

Minimum Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in human services, social work, or a related field. Equivalent years of direct experience in childcare, family social services, or a related field may be substituted for education.
  • At least one year of experience working with at-risk youth and families.
  • Skills in group facilitation, family assessment, and networking with community resources.
  • Exceptional professional oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently with effective organizational and time management skills.
  • The ability to relate to a diverse population of adults and children with a range of personalities and challenges.
  • High proficiency in computer programs including Microsoft Office products, Adobe, and databases.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Other Requirements

  • Complete and clear a drug screen.
  • Complete and clear a background screen including FBI fingerprinting.
  • The ability to work irregular hours, including some evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of families.

The salary offered will fall within the stated range and will depend on the candidate's level of education and years of relevant experience.
