Industrial Design Engineer – Bulk Feed Trailer Manufacturing
Position Summary
The Industrial Design Engineer plays a key role in the design and development of bulk feed trailers, blending creative engineering with practical manufacturing knowledge. This role is responsible for creating functional, durable, and manufacturable trailer designs using Creo CAD software. The engineer collaborates closely with production, fabrication, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure products meet industry standards, customer requirements, and performance expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop bulk feed trailers and related components using Creo CAD software.
Generate detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings tailored to steel fabrication, welding, hydraulics, and mechanical systems.
Collaborate with engineering, production, and fabrication teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and aligned with shop capabilities.
Conduct structural and mechanical feasibility reviews for load capacity, weight distribution, ergonomics, and durability in agricultural environments.
Support prototype builds, testing, and validation of trailers and mechanical systems.
Select materials, hardware, and manufacturing processes suitable for heavy-duty agricultural equipment.
Maintain accurate documentation including BOMs, revision histories, and production specifications.
Work with suppliers and vendors to ensure component compatibility, manufacturability, and quality standards.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including weight reduction, cost savings, and product reliability enhancements.
Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations (DOT, safety standards, and agricultural equipment guidelines).
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a similar engineering discipline.
Proficiency in Creo (preferred CAD software) for both 2D drawings and advanced 3D modeling of welded structures, assemblies, and mechanical systems.
Strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes used in trailer and heavy-equipment production, including steel fabrication, welding, machining, and assembly.
Ability to interpret and develop engineering drawings, GD&T, and tolerance analyses.
Experience with prototyping and mechanical testing.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate customer needs into functional designs.
Effective communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills
Experience with agricultural equipment or heavy-duty trailer manufacturing.
Familiarity with hydraulics, PTO-driven systems, augers, conveyors, or bulk material handling equipment.
Knowledge of FEA or simulation for structural analysis.
Understanding of DOT and safety compliance for commercial trailers.
Work Environment
This role involves a combination of office design work and hands-on shop interaction, including reviewing builds, inspecting fabrications, assisting with prototype assembly, and working directly with production teams and suppliers.
