Position Summary

This role will be onsite and it will oversee all financial operations, reporting, and internal controls for Circle 8 Crane Services. This role ensures sound accounting practices, job cost accuracy, and compliance while driving strategic financial insight. The Controller partners with senior leadership to improve profitability, manage risk, and guide long-term financial strategy. This position is instrumental in shaping company performance through accurate data, financial modeling, and operational collaboration.


Essential Responsibilities:


Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee job cost accounting to ensure accurate tracking of labor, equipment, and project expenses.
  • Manage and prepare consolidated financial reporting using NetSuite, ensuring GAAP and PCAOB-compliant practices.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes (targets: 7-day month-end, 10-day quarter-end).
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, internal controls, and financial procedures.
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts, budgets, multi-year projections, and financial models.
  • Monitor project profitability, equipment utilization, and cost trends to support operational decision-making.


Operational Partnership

  • Partner with operations, site leaders, and project managers to improve job margin visibility and cost efficiency.
  • Build influence and trust with a long-tenured, relationship-driven team that may be sensitive to change.
  • Communicate changes with empathy, clarity, and adaptability to different learning styles.


Process Improvement & Modernization

  • Lead modernization of financial processes, including shifting from paper checks to automated ACH/vendor payments and ERP-to-bank integrations.
  • Improve utilization and accuracy of Fleet Cost & Care (FCC), including job flow, PO process, and equipment reporting.
  • Streamline P-Card workflows and fine-tune PO processes for inventory.
  • Enhance reporting accuracy and support proactive financial planning in a traditionally reactionary environment.


Team Leadership

  • Supervise accounting teams across different regions in the US.
  • Develop and mentor team members; complete a full team assessment within the first 6 months.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, performance, and constructive communication.


Compliance, Audit & Banking

  • Facilitate internal and external audits and coordinate tax filings.
  • Manage cash management, ABL reporting, and banking relationships.
  • Support capital investments and acquisition activities through financial modeling.



Reporting Structure

  • Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
  • Works closely with: Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Operating Officer (COO), and Site Leaders
  • Direct Reports: Sr. Accountant, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable


Key Success Measures

  • Timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting.
  • Job cost accuracy and project profitability improvement.
  • Cash flow forecasting precision.
  • Team development and process improvement outcomes.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred; Master’s Degree a plus.
  • 10 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management.
  • Experience in construction, crane rental, or heavy equipment industries strongly preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP; experience with PCAOB, audit, and compliance preferred.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) and advanced Excel financial modeling.
  • Strong knowledge of cash management, risk assessment, and ABL reporting.
  • Proven ability to lead accounting teams and collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • High degree of integrity, reliability, and leadership.
  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment.


Compensation

  • The estimated salary range for this position is $140,000–$165,000 base, depending on experience, qualifications, and fit.
