Role Summary
We are seeking a Cloud Services Engineer to design, build, and maintain production-grade, cloud-native APIs and backend services on GCP. This role focuses on service and API development, not ETL or data pipelines. The ideal candidate:
- Has professional experience developing and owning production services.
- Is comfortable working in Golang (preferred) or another strongly typed language (C#, Rust).
- Has hands-on experience deploying to GCP, including Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, and Pub/Sub.
- Can contribute to scalable, compliant infrastructure connecting with healthcare platforms like Epic, Meditech, or payer exchanges.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy secure, cloud-native APIs and backend services on GCP.
- Develop backend systems primarily in Golang, or another strongly typed language.
- Build integrations with internal services and external healthcare systems using FHIR, HL7, or other interoperability standards.
- Ensure secure communication with VPNs, TLS, VPCs, and implement authentication mechanisms like OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and mTLS.
- Maintain relational database layers in PostgreSQL or similar.
- Apply secure development practices: IAM role restrictions, secrets management, vulnerability scanning.
- Contribute to containerization and CI/CD pipelines using Docker and GCP-native tools.
- Ensure services meet HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST compliance standards.
Required Qualifications
- Experience building and owning production APIs or backend services.
- 6 months of hands-on Go experience, or 4 years in another strongly typed language.
- 6 months of deploying containerized or serverless services in GCP, AWS, or Azure (Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, or equivalent).
- 6 months of PostgreSQL experience, or 2 years with any relational database.
- Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and secure networking/API security.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills; comfortable in a startup environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Kubernetes and Infrastructure-as-Code experience (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Exposure to healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7, X12) and EHR integration (Epic, Meditech, Cerner).
- Experience in regulated industries (healthcare preferred) with compliance frameworks (HIPAA, HITRUST).
- Familiarity with GCP monitoring, logging, and observability tools.
