Tutor - Study Skills/First Year Experience, Tutoring Center, Part-time
Overview:
The Study Skills Tutor is a resource for students in classes across the Cincinnati State curriculum. Study Skills Tutors help students to develop the computing skills necessary for success in traditional and online courses. By enhancing students’ reading, note-taking, time-management, and assessment preparation skills, Study Skills Tutors play a vital role in improving student success.
Essential Duties:
The Study Skills Tutor will
- Assist students in prioritizing classwork
- Help students to develop productive note-taking skills
- Support students with test preparation
- Provide strategies for mitigating test anxiety
- Assist students in developing reading skills
- Create and deliver study skills workshops
- Provide outreach to the college community to raise awareness of the Tutoring Center and its services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in adult education or a similar field or Bachelor’s degree with 2 years or more of Study Skills intervention experience
- Strong written and oral communication Skills
- Proficiency with common academic and office software
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse population
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in adult education or similar field
- 3 years’ experience as a classroom-instructor or tutor
- Community College teaching or tutoring experience
- Experience working in an individualized learning center
- Familiarity with Cincinnati State portal, website, and learning management system
Skills, Abilities and Qualities:
Strong end-user software skills and aptitude. Self-motivated with a strong sense of teamwork. Reliable. Strong communication skills.
Details:
Reports to: Dean of Humanities and Sciences
Minimum Hourly rate: $22/hour
Contractual Affiliation: Non-bargaining
Exempt Classification: Non-Exempt
Status: Part time (Not to exceed 29 hours per week.)
Benefits:
This part-time position is eligible for the State Employee Retirement System (SERS) for which the employee's 10% contribution is matched by the College at 14% of earnings, or as otherwise statutorily required. This position will also be provided free on-campus parking.
