School Psychologist Intern

 

*Duties may vary based on building or assignment*

 

Posting is for 3rd or 4th year school psychology students assigned by their Universities to intern for CPS only. 

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Support psychologist supervisors with conducting comprehensive psychological assessments, including cognitive, academic, behavioral, and emotional evaluations.
  • Observe, participate, and chair multi-factored evaluations and ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Utilize culturally responsive practices in assessment and evaluation dissemination.

Intervention and Support

  • Participate in Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) processes with support and guidance of psychologist supervisor, including universal screenings and monitoring interventions.
    • Support data-based differentiation of instruction and assist teachers with effective practices.
    • Collect data from multiple sources as a foundation for decision-making at the individual, group, and systems levels within a multi-tiered system of supports.
    • Support the design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based interventions tailored to student needs.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) to address specific concerns.
  • Collaborate with staff to design accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities.
  • As determined by psychologist supervisors additional duties may include: provide mental health services, including the design of prevention programs, assessment, counseling, mental health, case management, behavioral consultation services, and crisis intervention in partnership with teachers, parents, school administrators, and other members of the school community to assist in developing effective strategies to serve students in need and to prevent mental health problems.

Consultation and Collaboration

  • Consult parents, staff, administrators, and community agencies to enhance student success.
  • Consult with teachers & parents regarding effective implementation of evidence-based programs, approaches, and strategies.
  • Participate in Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and school-wide safety initiatives.
  • Promote collaboration among school teams to integrate psychological services into educational planning.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Compliance with all laws and regulations (e.g., IDEA, Section 504, FERPA)
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff, respecting cultural and linguistic diversity.
  • Maintain organized, secure, and accessible records, using technology proficiently to document and analyze data.
  • Engage in reflective practice to improve professional skills and services provided.
  • Participate in district and school events, assume leadership roles when needed, and contribute to the professional development of colleagues.

Ethics and Professionalism

  • Apply ethical principles and standards of professional practice in service delivery.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and ensure accurate and timely documentation.
  • Seek professional development opportunities and contribute by sharing expertise or providing training.

Additional Expectations

  • Submit data to the district’s billing service provider program monthly.
  • The CBA requires us to attend two staff meetings per month. If a psychologist meeting is offered that month, it would be one of the two mandatory meetings. 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • The role requires operating in a school setting, traveling between schools as necessary, and working in office and classroom environments.
  • Extended periods of sitting, standing, and occasional lifting of light materials may be required.
