What are the responsibilities and job description for the Perfusion Assistant position at Cincinnati Children's?

Job Responsibilities

  • Procedure- Primary responsibilities include, selection, assembly, and management of autologous blood salvage, and Erydel devices and disposables, and inventory management in concert with CTOR inventory manager. Participate in ancillary cardiopulmonary support duties as deemed appropriate by Director or Associate Director of the DCP including but not limited to; MCS and DCP departmental equipment management, performing chemistry, blood gas, co-oximetry, and activated clotting time tests, quality control processes and procedures, duties associated with the Backer perfusionist role. Reviews appropriate patient data prior to intervention on assigned cases to determine appropriate equipment applications. Effectively communicates with surgeons, anesthesiologist, perfusionists, and operating room personnel. Provides age-appropriate care to all patients.
  • Documentation- EMR utilization, MS Office proficiency. Responsible for accurate and timely case data entry into the appropriate database. Maintains accurate documentation of cases and departmental functions for efficient department operation.
  • Operations- Must be able to operate, maintain, calibrate, and perform quality control testing on all operating room point of care laboratory equipment per institutional protocols and CLIA requirements. May coordinate with the Clinical Engineering department for preventative maintenance and routine equipment checks of all DCP managed equipment. May maintain and monitor cryogenic storage unit for human tissue grafts. Participates in evaluating new equipment to determine operational characteristics and therapeutic value.
  • Training & Education- Participates in applicable clinical educational and continuing educational programs in an effort to maintain education in the field through continuing education, literature, and seminars, and applies this knowledge to the care of patients.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate degree in related field
  • Preferred: 1 yrs experience as a Surg. Tech, Perfusion Asst, or other healthcare related field
  • Preferred: Previous Operating Room experience
  • Eligible to sit for the PBMT exam. PBMT certificate required within first 12 months of employment
