Grade 6: $21.53 - $26.38 per hour (based on experience)

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of community-oriented security, public safety, and law enforcement practices and principles.
- Knowledge of fire and security systems, as well as legal, fire, and safety codes.
- Skill in crisis management, including the management of critical incidents.
- Skill in customer service.
- Ability to work independently and with coworkers in a wide variety of situations with minimal supervision.
- Ability to use all technology applicable to the essential functions of the job and commonly used by the Library.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with customers, staff, and community members. Consistently circulates assigned locations, greets customers, and answers directional questions.
- Engages with customers to address issues to quickly diffuse and de-escalate situations and minimize disruption. Discusses infractions or violations with customers, assesses appropriate actions, and escorts customers from premises if necessary.
- Responds quickly to requests for security presence during unusual incidents [e.g., assists staff in deescalating situations with customers, is present in the event of threats against staff, assists HR with internal manners, etc.]. Responds to reports of emergencies or crimes and assists where necessary.
- Prepares well-written, accurate, and concise reports of incidents, daily activities, irregularities, and surveillance activities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
- Makes rounds during closed and open hours, examines doors, windows and gates, and monitors for potential facility problems, reporting irregularities.
- Monitors surveillance equipment, including closed circuit television [CCTV] and fire detection systems, permits entry, sets building and equipment controls, makes routine and emergency announcements and obtains help by sounding alarms.
- Performs general administrative duties such as answering the phone and logging incoming calls, receiving and communicating work orders to Facilities, signing out keys, pagers, and radios
- Travels frequently throughout various locations to help evaluate safety and security issues.
- Escorts or drives motor vehicles to transport individuals to specified locations.
- Testifies in court proceedings.
- Interprets and communicates the Library’s policies and procedures to the public in a customer-friendly manner.
- Supports and advances the Library’s mission of connecting people with the world of ideas and information.
