POSITION SUMMARY:
The Main Shelver sorts, arranges, and shelves returned materials, and maintains and retrieves library material in all formats.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sorts and shelves books and other materials throughout the Main Library.
- Shelves materials to ensure strong collection integrity of the Library’s collections.
- Scans materials into computer to assure appropriate check-in.
- Shelf reads according to schedule for accurate order of materials.
- Shifts and straightens materials.
- Searches for misplaced or lost materials.
- Assists with weeding, as assigned.
- Pulls materials requiring mending or binding.
- Works with a wide variety of material types and collections contained within eleven floors and two buildings.
- Prepares carts of materials for delivery to appropriate locations.
- Delivers and pickups of materials throughout the Main Library.
- Assists with training for new Shelvers as directed.
- Assists customers with directional and simple reference questions.
- Supports and advances the Library’s mission of connecting people with the world of ideas and information.
