SHOP HAND
Shop Hands assists in the daily operations of the fabrication shop, supporting skilled workers in the production and assembly of structural steel components. This role involves a variety of tasks such as material handling, equipment operation, and general maintenance. The shop helper is expected to adhere to safety guidelines, work collaboratively with the team, and contribute to the overall efficiency and quality of production.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of structural steel fabrication and assembly is a plus
- Experience in a similar labor-intensive role is preferred
- Experience operating forklifts and overhead cranes is preferred
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- Willingness to learn and take direction from supervisors and skilled colleagues
POSITION EXPECTATIONS:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Load, unload, and move steel materials within the shop
- Assist in organizing and storing materials properly to maintain an efficient workflow
- Operate forklifts, cranes, and other lifting equipment safely and efficiently
- Assist welders, fabricators, and other skilled tradespeople in their tasks
- Perform basic welding, cutting, and grinding tasks under supervision
- Operate basic hand and power tools such as grinders, saws, drills, and torches
- Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure proper functioning
- Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the supervisor
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and materials are stored properly
- Assist in general shop maintenance tasks such as sweeping, cleaning, and organizing
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Report any unsafe conditions or incidents to the supervisor immediately
