Assistant Operations Manager — Security & Traffic Control

Critical Incident Management and Critical Traffic Management
Location: Nashua, NH; regular field travel throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts
Job type: Full-time, hourly/non-exempt

The opportunity

Critical Incident Management and Critical Traffic Management are seeking a dependable, hands-on Assistant Operations Manager to help lead our growing security and traffic-control operations.

This is not a desk-only management position. The right person will build and adjust schedules, review and approve timecards, supervise employees, visit client sites, respond to call-offs, and help keep every commitment we make to our clients. When a qualified replacement cannot be found, this manager must also be willing and able to step into a security officer or traffic flagger assignment.

The role is ideal for a field leader who is organized enough to run a schedule and payroll process, calm enough to solve an urgent staffing problem, and humble enough to work beside the employees they supervise.

Experience in both security and traffic control is helpful, but it is not required. Strong candidates with management experience in either industry—or in another 24/7 field-service or staffing environment—will be considered. We will provide paid training and certification in the other side of the business.

What you will do

Scheduling and daily staffing

  • Create, publish, and maintain security and traffic-control schedules across multiple clients and work locations.
  • Confirm that employees are properly trained, certified, and qualified for each assignment.
  • Respond to call-offs, no-shows, schedule changes, weather events, client changes, and emergency requests.
  • Contact available employees, reorganize coverage, and control unnecessary overtime while protecting client service.
  • Personally fill security officer or traffic flagger shifts when other qualified coverage is unavailable and operational needs require it.

Timekeeping and administrative operations

  • Review, correct, and approve employee timecards accurately and by established payroll deadlines.
  • Reconcile scheduled hours, employee punches, client-authorized hours, and field documentation.
  • Follow up promptly on missed punches, late timecards, travel time, overtime, and other exceptions.
  • Maintain employee scheduling information, certifications, availability, training records, and operational documentation.
  • Use Paychex Flex and other scheduling, reporting, and communication systems to keep records current and accurate.

Field supervision and employee leadership

  • Conduct site visits, post inspections, work-zone observations, vehicle/equipment checks, and employee performance reviews.
  • Coach employees on attendance, appearance, customer service, safety, post orders, traffic-control procedures, and company expectations.
  • Document performance concerns and assist with counseling, corrective action, recognition, and employee development.
  • Support recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, orientation, and field training for security officers and traffic-control personnel.
  • Build strong working relationships with employees and lead by example in both office and field settings.

Client service and emergency response

  • Serve as an operations contact for clients and respond professionally to service questions, schedule changes, incidents, and urgent requests.
  • Assist with incident review, employee follow-up, client communications, and corrective-action plans.
  • Participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Be prepared to respond by phone, coordinate replacement coverage, visit a site, or work an assignment when circumstances require it.
  • Escalate significant safety, employee, or client issues to senior management promptly and accurately.

Required qualifications

  • At least three years of experience in operations, scheduling, dispatch, field supervision, or account management in security, traffic control, construction services, utilities, transportation, event staffing, healthcare staffing, or another 24/7 field-workforce environment.
  • At least two years of direct employee-supervision or team-lead experience.
  • Demonstrated experience creating schedules and resolving last-minute coverage problems for an hourly workforce.
  • Experience reviewing timecards, payroll information, or other detailed labor records.
  • Strong computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office, and web-based scheduling or timekeeping systems.
  • Clear written and verbal communication and the judgment to handle confidential employee and client matters.
  • Valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable under company insurance requirements.
  • Ability to travel regularly throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts and occasionally elsewhere in New England.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule and participate in rotating on-call coverage.
  • Willingness and physical ability to perform security and traffic-control assignments, including prolonged standing and walking, working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, or snow, and lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to pass required background checks, motor-vehicle review, drug screening, and client-specific screening requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security, flagger, CPR/First Aid, and other company or client certifications. Company-paid training will be provided.

Preferred qualifications

  • Prior contract-security, traffic-control, utility-construction, or multi-site staffing experience.
  • Experience scheduling or supervising 20 or more employees across multiple locations.
  • Experience with Paychex Flex or comparable workforce-management software.
  • Current ATSSA or National Safety Council flagger certification.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Experience with employee coaching, incident documentation, client communication, and overtime control.
  • Associate degree or higher in business, criminal justice, public safety, construction management, or a related field. Equivalent relevant experience is fully acceptable.

Compensation and benefits

  • $34.00–$38.00 per hour, based on experience
  • Overtime pay after 40 hours in a workweek
  • $200 stipend for each assigned on-call week, plus pay for actual time worked
  • Eligibility for an annual performance bonus of up to 5% of base wages earned, based on defined operational and performance goals
  • Company vehicle and fuel card for business travel and emergency response
  • Company phone and laptop
  • 100% employer-paid employee-only medical, dental, and vision coverage after 90 days
  • 401(k) with company match up to 3% after 90 days
  • 15 days of paid time off
  • Paid training, certifications, uniforms, and required safety equipment
  • Career path toward increased operations-management responsibility as the companies continue to grow

Schedule and work environment

This position combines office work, field supervision, travel, and direct service coverage. Core administrative work will generally occur during weekdays, but traffic-control starts may be early, security operations run around the clock, and client needs can change with little notice. Candidates must be comfortable with a variable schedule and a rotating on-call assignment that may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
