Position Summary

The System Administrator is a key technical role within the IT Department of Cibola General Hospital. This position is responsible for managing, maintaining, and securing the hospital’s core IT infrastructure, servers, and network systems to ensure high availability and operational efficiency. The System Administrator will support critical clinical and administrative platforms, implement daily system updates, manage user access, and maintain data backups.

This role requires a proactive technology professional who understands the unique operational demands and strict regulatory environment of a rural healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure & Server Management: Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers, network hardware, and operating systems. Ensure 99.9% uptime for core hospital infrastructure and resolve hardware and system-level issues promptly.
  • EHR System & Core Platform Support: Assist with the administration, hosting infrastructure, and technical support for the hospital’s Electronic Health Record system and peripheral clinical applications. Ensure seamless system connectivity and data flow across operational platforms.
  • Vendor & Support Escalation: Work closely with third-party hardware, software, and cloud service vendors to troubleshoot complex system issues, manage service tickets, and oversee routine hardware maintenance.
  • Communication & System Access: Manage active directory, domain accounts, and user access across the Microsoft 365 Suite, SharePoint, and core network systems. Maintain identity management controls to support secure internal communication and collaboration.
  • Automation & Process Improvement: Implement scripts and system automation tools to streamline routine maintenance tasks, patch management, system backups, and monitoring workflows, reducing manual administrative burden.
  • Maintenance & Incident Management: Execute routine software patches, system upgrades, and system recovery tests. Serve as a primary point of contact for tier-2/3 technical escalation, resolving network and system outages efficiently.
  • Operational Alignment: Collaborate with the IT leadership team and department heads to maintain operational continuity, assist with technology upgrades, and maintain up-to-date system documentation.
  • Compliance & Security: Enforce system security protocols, access controls, network safeguards, and data backup procedures to maintain data privacy and strict adherence to HIPAA, HITECH, and hospital regulatory compliance standards.
Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or related technical field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive experience in system administration, network engineering, or infrastructure support.
  • Hands-on experience with Windows Server administration, Active Directory, virtualized environments (VMware/Hyper-V), and system backups.
  • Strong familiarity supporting cloud services and the Microsoft 365 ecosystem (SharePoint, Exchange Online, Teams).
  • Proven experience managing hardware and IT infrastructure in an enterprise or healthcare environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a Critical Access Hospital or rural healthcare environment.
  • Familiarity with EHR system environments (e.g., Cerner) and healthcare IT workflows.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network /Security , Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, VMware VCP, CCNA) are highly desirable.

  • Reliable incident management and time management skills under pressure.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to assist non-technical staff and collaborate with clinical teams.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare regulatory compliance standards (HIPAA, HITECH).
  • Proficiency with server hardware, network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), and system virtualization.
  • Detail-oriented mindset focused on system security, continuous uptime, and reliable data backups.
  • Ability to adapt and resourcefully manage IT infrastructure in a resource-constrained environment.

Salary : $145,000 - $163,000
