Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients in a professional, safe, and efficient manner. This role requires excellent patient care skills, attention to detail, and adherence to strict aseptic techniques. Prior hospital experience and laboratory familiarity are highly desirable. Responsibilities
- Collect blood samples from patients using venipuncture, capillary puncture, and other appropriate techniques.
- Ensure patient comfort and provide clear instructions throughout the procedure.
- Accurately label specimens and document collection details in accordance with hospital protocols.
- Maintain strict aseptic technique to prevent contamination or infection.
- Prepare samples for laboratory analysis, including handling and transportation.
- Assist with specimen processing and laboratory tasks as required.
- Follow health and safety guidelines diligently, including infection control procedures.
- Support patients of all ages, including paediatrics, with professionalism and empathy.
- Maintain cleanliness of work area and equipment after each procedure.
- Participate in ongoing training programmes to stay current with best practices in phlebotomy.
Requirements
- Proven hospital experience as a Phlebotomist or in a similar clinical setting.
- Certification or recognised training in phlebotomy is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of human anatomy and physiology relevant to blood collection.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory procedures.
- Proficiency in aseptic techniques to ensure sample integrity and safety.
- Experience with catheterisation procedures is advantageous.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification is desirable.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with compassion, especially when working with paediatric patients.
- Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail for accurate documentation.
