Phlebotomist

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients with precision and care, ensuring adherence to strict safety and hygiene standards. Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples from patients using appropriate phlebotomy techniques, ensuring minimal discomfort and maximum safety.
• Prepare specimens for laboratory analysis according to established protocols.
• Maintain accurate patient records and sample labelling to prevent errors.
• Follow aseptic techniques rigorously to prevent contamination or infection.
• Assist with other laboratory procedures such as catheterisation when required.
• Monitor patients during procedures, providing reassurance and support, especially in paediatric cases.
• Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, including infection control policies.
• Maintain cleanliness of work areas and ensure all equipment is properly sterilised and functioning correctly.
• Support the laboratory team with administrative tasks as needed, such as inventory management.

Skills

• Proven hospital experience in a clinical or laboratory setting.
• Certified in phlebotomy with solid practical skills in blood collection techniques.
• Strong knowledge of human anatomy and physiology relevant to blood sampling procedures.
• Familiarity with medical terminology used within healthcare environments.
• Proficiency in aseptic technique to maintain sample integrity and prevent cross-contamination.
• Experience with laboratory procedures, including handling specimens and operating related equipment.
• Ability to perform catheterisation when required, demonstrating steady hands and precision.
• Basic life support (BLS) certification is preferred for emergency response readiness.
