Duties
- Collect blood samples from patients using venipuncture or capillary puncture techniques while maintaining strict aseptic protocols
- Ensure proper identification and labelling of specimens in accordance with hospital policies
- Prepare patients for blood collection, explaining procedures clearly to reduce anxiety
- Maintain accurate records of all samples collected and procedures performed
- Assist with laboratory tests requiring blood or other specimen collection, including catheterisation when necessary
- Follow all health and safety guidelines, including aseptic techniques, to prevent contamination or infection
- Handle and process specimens according to laboratory standards and protocols
- Support the medical team in emergency situations requiring basic life support (BLS) skills
- Provide specialised care for paediatric patients when required, demonstrating sensitivity and patience
Experience
- Previous hospital experience is preferred, especially in a clinical or laboratory setting
- Proven proficiency in phlebotomy techniques and anatomy knowledge relevant to blood collection
- Understanding of physiology, medical terminology, and laboratory procedures
- Experience with catheterisation procedures is advantageous but not essential
- Certification or training in basic life support (BLS) is desirable
- Familiarity with aseptic technique and infection control protocols
- Experience working with paediatric patients is a plus but not mandatory
