Essential Functions
The Heavy Equipment Operator II is responsible for advanced operation of heavy construction equipment and utility vehicles in support of underground utility installation projects. This role requires extensive experience, technical expertise, and the ability to lead crews in the safe and efficient completion of complex excavation and construction tasks. Level 2 operators serve as mentors to junior operators and ensure compliance with company and industry safety standards.
Essential Functions
- Operates a broad range of heavy equipment including excavators, bulldozers, trenchers, graders, cranes, and directional drills.
- Leads crews in excavation, trenching, conduit placement, and fiber optic cable installation.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, utility maps, and construction drawings to execute work plans.
- Provides on-the-job training and guidance to Level 1 operators and laborers.
- Conducts site assessments, identifies hazards, and ensures compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
- Performs routine inspection, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on assigned equipment; reports major defects to supervisor.
- Coordinates with project managers and engineers to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met.
- Maintains accurate records of equipment use, maintenance, and project progress.
- Ensures proper loading, hauling, and unloading of equipment and materials.
