What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Service Technician position at CHUTES International™?
Field Service Technician
JOIN OUR TEAM
Can you fix almost anything?
CHUTES International is looking for a hands-on mechanical problem solver to join our growing Field Service team. You don't need compactor experience — we can teach you compactors.
If you've worked with mechanical equipment, electrical troubleshooting, hydraulics, automotive or diesel equipment, HVAC, or industrial maintenance, we'd like to talk.
If you like working with your hands, solving problems, and having the freedom to work independently, this isn't a job where you'll spend every day in the same place doing the same thing. You'll be out in the field tackling different challenges, meeting customers, and getting the satisfaction of knowing you fixed the problem and kept their operation moving.
CHUTES CORE VALUES
We live by Loyalty, Integrity, Improvement, Accountability, and being All-In. We're looking for technicians who embody these values and take pride in doing the job right.
WHY CHUTES?
We're a fast-growing company where initiative, accountability, and problem-solving are valued. You'll have the opportunity to work independently, build your skills, and become part of a team that takes pride in keeping our customers' equipment running.
If you're mechanically inclined, enjoy figuring out how things work, and don't want to be stuck doing the same thing every day, this could be a great fit.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You'll respond to emergency service calls and scheduled maintenance visits to diagnose, repair, and maintain compactors, balers, dock levelers, and related equipment. You'll also inspect and service chutes and containers at a variety of customer locations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues
- Repair and replace mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components
- Read and interpret electrical schematics
- Drive and operate a company service truck
- Respond to emergency calls, including overtime and rotating on-call shifts
- Maintain accurate service records
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and dispatch
- Work independently in the field while knowing you have a team behind you
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You don't need to come to us knowing compactors. If you're mechanically inclined and know how to troubleshoot equipment, we can teach you the rest.
Experience in one or more of these areas is a plus:
- Hydraulic systems and repair
- Electrical troubleshooting
- Automotive or diesel repair
- HVAC
- Industrial or facilities maintenance
- Heavy or mechanical equipment
- Compactors, balers, or similar equipment
You'll also need:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and confidence using tools
- A problem-solving mindset
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Dependable and consistent work ethic
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Safety-first attitude
- Willingness to work in tight, dirty spaces when the job requires it
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Field-based position with travel to customer job sites
- Must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
- Work may involve confined spaces, noise, dirt, and varied temperatures
- PPE required, including eye, ear, and foot protection
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Our successful Technicians are the people who like figuring things out. They can walk up to a piece of equipment that isn't working, troubleshoot the problem, and find a solution.
They keep customers' equipment running safely and reliably, communicate well with customers and the CHUTES team, take care of their truck and tools, complete their service records, and take pride in leaving a job knowing they fixed the problem.
