Churchill Downs Racetrack (“CDRT”), the world’s most legendary racetrack, has been the home of The Kentucky Derby, the longest continually held annual sporting event in the United States, since 1875. Located in Louisville, CDRT features a series of themed race days during Derby Week, including the Kentucky Oaks, and conducts Thoroughbred horse racing during three race meets in the Spring, September and Fall. CDRT is located on 175 acres and has a one-mile dirt track, a 7/8-mile turf track, a stabling area, and provides seating for approximately 60,000 guests. The stable area has barns sufficient to accommodate 1,400 horses and a 114-room dormitory for backstretch personnel. CDRT also has a year-round simulcast wagering facility . www.ChurchillDowns.com.
JOB SUMMARY
At Churchill Downs Racetrack thousands of people come and go through our gates each year. We’re looking for a highly competent security officer to join our team to monitor the premises and protect our valued staff, guests, and facility. Our ideal candidate will have prior experience as a security officer or guard. He or she will have a sharp eye with quick reaction time in the detection of any suspicious or criminal behavior, and prevention of theft or vandalism.
Although you’ll be working under the direct supervision of a security supervisor for your assigned shift, we will rely upon you for the protection, safeguarding, and security of assets, personnel, customers, tenants, guests, and other people and property on our grounds. Shift schedule may vary between 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift. A Field Training Program is provided to the Security Officer to prepare them for the duties and responsibilities of the role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure a safe environment through a team effort of diligent active patrol, strict access control, monitoring, and equipment control.
  • Be visible and observant at all times, greeting staff, guests, and vendors in a courteous and attentive manner.
  • Respond immediately to distress calls, panic alarms, and emergency calls for disorderly conduct, disruptive persons, and incidents swiftly and appropriately.
  • Maintain the company’s reputation with professionalism and legal compliance.
  • Collaborate with other security officers for effective protection and coverage.
  • Patrol property on foot or in vehicle, in all weather conditions, securing personnel, assets, buildings, gates, and fence perimeter are secure.
  • Investigate and take the appropriate lawful action as authorized by policy on accidents, incidents, trespassing, suspicious activities, unusual occurrences, safety, and fire incidents.
  • Control and monitor surveillance equipment, and perform building and equipment inspections.
  • Guard access points, permitting or refusing entry, restraining trespassers, and direct heavy traffic.
  • Complete daily logs, including relevant information, observations, surveillance footage, and incident reports with accuracy.
  • Receive and transmit across the radio to dispatch for status, response, and log of actions.
  • Secure all doors, windows, gates, and exits.
  • Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying prohibited items.
  • Signs for and accepts deliveries.
  • Ensure all guest questions and concerns are addressed immediately, either personally, or by contacting the appropriate department, supervisor, or member of management, to obtain the answer to the question, or obtain assistance in resolving the concern. Own the situation until the situation is resolved, or the guest is in direct contact with the Team Member who will resolve the situation.

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. An individual should have proven experience in performing security related tasks, be helpful with a courteous attitude, and be comfortable using computers and adapting to new software and systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with security equipment and surveillance systems
  • Law enforcement or military experience
  • Proven experience as a security officer
CPR/AED Certification
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
  • Must be at least 18 years of age;
  • Must possess valid driver’s license
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
  • The employee will be required to sit for extended periods of time
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may also be required to stand: walk; use hands to finger reach, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • The employee may be asked to occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
  • The employee may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate
