Church Community Services (CCS) The Acres at Jamestown & Seed to Feed (StF) Part-Time (Year 1–2) | Potential Full-Time (Year 3 ) Reports to Executive Director of CCS and Director, Seed to Feed
Position Summary
The Acres Coordinator provides on-site property and program support for The Acres at Jamestown by CCS while supporting the broader Seed to Feed program. This role ensures the upkeep and functionality of the property, leads volunteers, assists with events, and maintains revenue generating agricultural/horticultural projects.
Starting as a part-time position, the Acres Coordinator will have the opportunity to grow into a full-time role as programming, events, and year-round event and agricultural operations expand. This role combines hands-on property management, program coordination, volunteer leadership, and educational support.
Current Responsibilities (Years 1–2) 20-30 hours a week
Property & Site Management
Perform property setup and general maintenance for The Acres.
Manage physical site improvements, including trail building and upkeep.
Plant, maintain, and care for the food crops, flowers, cash crops, perennial fruit trees, trees, bushes, and food forest.
Assist in the development of wholesale and retail generating produce and flower sales
Volunteer & Event Support
Lead volunteer groups and coordinate activities at The Acres.
Support events, including setup, teardown, and on-site logistics.
Assist with seasonal operations and program support for Seed to Feed activities hosted at The Acres.
Growth & Future Responsibilities (Years 3–5, could be year 2) Fulltime
Lead a horticultural therapy program (one evening per week, three 8-week sessions per year).
Support revenue generating plant sales and seasonal operations:
Greenhouse sales: April–May
Gardening season: May–October
Sell revenue generating produce and plant starts at Wakarusa Produce Auction.
Deliver wholesale flowers to local florists.
Oversee community build projects on The Acres, such as a small hoop house, program builds (chairs, benches, tables, shelves, handy crafts), community barn-raising, and coordinate volunteer leadership
Optionally teach revenue generating workshops and classes at The Acres, including but not limited to:
- Mushroom cultivation
- Plein air painting
- Seasonal hikes and bird watching
- Fruit tree care and planting
- Permaculture and canning classes
Participate in winter planning and preparation for the upcoming growing season (November–January).
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience with property maintenance, landscaping, or groundskeeping.
Basic gardening knowledge, including planting and caring for trees, shrubs, and specialty crops.
Ability to operate basic hand tools and equipment safely.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to lead and supervise volunteers effectively.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work outdoors in variable and often extreme weather conditions.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual labor.
Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
Experience with community gardens, garden therapy, or educational programming.
Experience teaching or facilitating workshops for diverse audiences.
Knowledge of permaculture, sustainable agriculture, horticulture or food forestry.
Experience with event coordination and volunteer management.
Familiarity with local food systems, food pantries and food banks, and regional agricultural networks.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Work Schedule & Conditions
Part-time position initially, with potential for full-time growth as program demands expand. Evenings and weekend hours required.
Flexible hours to accommodate seasonal activities, volunteer coordination, and events
Physical work includes lifting, planting, mowing, and general outdoor maintenance.
Part-time benefits apply
The right applicant should expect to receive a minimum hourly rate of $15.00 an hour.
