Responsibilities
- Assist orthodontists during patient examinations, procedures, and treatments with precision and efficiency.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary supplies, and ensuring aseptic techniques are maintained at all times.
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans, ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols are followed in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix; ensure accuracy in medical documentation and coding.
- Provide excellent customer service as a dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, verifying patient insurance information, and answering patient inquiries.
- Support infection control protocols by adhering to strict sterilization procedures and maintaining a clean clinical environment.
- Assist with vital signs measurement and basic medical assessments to ensure patient safety before procedures.
- Collaborate in four-handed dentistry practices to optimize workflow efficiency during treatments.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and various specialties such as prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry to support diverse clinical needs.
- Document medical records accurately while ensuring compliance with HIPAA standards for confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in dental assisting within a general or pediatric dentistry setting; orthodontic experience is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with EMR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix; familiarity with Epic or other medical documentation platforms is a plus.
- Strong understanding of infection control practices, aseptic technique, and sterilization procedures.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, radiography (including X-ray techniques), and medical terminology relevant to dental care.
- Ability to operate dental imaging equipment such as 3D scanners safely and effectively.
- Excellent communication skills to interact confidently with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently during complex orthodontic procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Certification in radiography or X-ray technology preferred; CPR certification is a plus.
