USE OF INFORMATION OBTAINED IN A BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION

Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Social Services Director, the Elder & Vulnerable Adults Coordinator will implement various projects that are aimed at protecting, eliminating crimes against elders and vulnerable adults, and ensuring that our most vulnerable population is receiving all services designed for them. In particular, the Elder & Vulnerable Adults Coordinator will focus on ending financial exploitation, caregiver neglect, psychological abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse of vulnerable individuals within the Chugach Region.
Major Responsibilities:
- Establish relationships with all elders and individuals with vulnerabilities throughout the Chugach Region.
- Maintain contacts with elders and vulnerable adults within the region on an ongoing basis.
- Give community presentations on the challenges of the aged and vulnerable for Chugachmiut beneficiaries.
- Provide community engagement opportunities through cultural activities.
- Establish ongoing trust and communications with the tribal partners within the Chugach Region in order to be regarded as a resource.
- Establish and maintain a strong relationship with Adult Protective Services of Alaska and other protective services for other vulnerable populations.
- Perform ongoing and periodic assessments of the needs of the elderly and the vulnerable within the Chugach Region.
- Refer and facilitate services (SNAP, SSI/SSD, General Assistance, food boxes, Energy Assistance, etc.) for the people of the region to ensure that all people are receiving the benefits they are entitled to receive.
- Provide case management services to elders and vulnerable adults.
- Develop and implement grant deliverables, provide data tracking, and grant writing.
- Complete all required documentation including periodic reports, funder quarterly and other reports, case management documentation, and referral paperwork.
- Provide referrals to other providers (Medical, Behavioral Health, Heritage, outside resources) as needed.
- Travel monthly to our communities and provide emergency coverage as needed.
- Attend all required meetings.
- Both provide and receive supervision as directed.
- Provide coverage for other programs under the Social Services umbrella as-needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Education Requirements:
- Minimum of high school graduate or G.E.D. required plus two years’ experience in the field
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Four (4) year’s progressive experience with adult protection, child protection, domestic violence service provision or a related field
- Familiarity with Alaska Native or Native American culture and customs, especially the Sugpiaq and Eyak peoples
- Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, Access and Power Point
Hours of Work:
Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with one hour for lunch. Chugachmiut maintains a drug and alcohol-free and/non-smoking work environment.
