This position is located onsite at the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Job Overview
Performs installation, maintenance, and repairs to high voltage power lines, systems and related equipment between major substations and up to and including the load side of substations. Reviews work assigned and determines routing, location and method of installation or maintenance of cables, conduits, electrical equipment, hardware and accessories. Computes wire gauge or cable size, power and load limits if required. Determines line grading on high line work and radius bends and turns on underground cable installations.

Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties:
- Builds up pole assemblies and erects poles, string cables, attaches necessary hardware, splices and insulates cable, attaches wire from auxiliary equipment to power lines. Works on energized lines as required utilizing hot stick and appropriate safety equipment.
- Performs rearrangement, alteration, repairs, construction and maintenance activities on electrical distribution systems, generators, transformers, switches, controls, associated circuits, on systems and equipment.
- Maintains operating condition and makes regular inspection tours of power stations and high voltage lines and systems.
- Examines lines, systems, and equipment for malfunctions and deterioration.
- Repairs as feasible and reports major damage or repairs to supervision for further work determinations.
- Performs repair and replacement activities for pole cross arms, braces, insulators, lightning arresters for air beads, bleeding spots, and corona leaks.
- Performs high voltage power and current checks as required.
- Checks meter readings in power station and makes necessary adjustments to equipment to equalize line loads, reduce or increase power, and handle emergency conditions.
- Maintains station logs and related records.
Mandatory:
- Must maintain the appropriate certifications where applicable.
- Requires ability to read and interpret all types of maintenance blueprints and schematics.
- Requires knowledge of high voltage and high line electrical installation, repair, and modification techniques.
- Requires 4 years experience.
- Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
- Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
- Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
- Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
- Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

- Demands moderate physical effort when working with hand tools, climbing poles, and working in difficult positions when performing high line work.
- Requires visual/mental attention at all times.
