Job Overview
The Cook is responsible for assisting the Lead Cook in coordinating meal preparation, assisting with kitchen and cafeteria activities, and maintains a clean and safe environment.
For over 60 years, Job Corps has helped young people achieve successful careers in some the country's fastest-growing industries. Administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, Gulfport Job Corps Center is a part of the nation's largest career technical training and education program.
This schedule for this position will include working evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties:
- Prepare vegetables by washing, peeling, coring, grinding, shredding, or chopping, for use in entrees.
- Prepare meats for cooking by washing, trimming, boning, cutting, cubing, or forming into patties or loaves.
- Cook or bake items, which require minimum preparation.
- Help cook and serve meals, ensuring that prepared foods are held and served at proper temperatures, and all left over foods are properly chilled and stored.
- Keep food service area, tables, floors, and equipment clean and sanitary.
- Prepare desserts as needed.
- Assist with the appropriate storage of dry goods and freezer items.
- Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices and OSHA standards.
- Helps supervise work-based learning program to include the development of student's employability, social skills and Career Success Standards while in the Food Service area.
Mandatory:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Training in food preparation and 1-year experience.
- Must be able to obtain a Food Handler’s certificate within 30 days of employment.
- Successfully pass any background check and/drug test required on the contract.
- Ability to obtain & maintain valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record.
