Job Description
The Manager, Accounting will manage the general accounting operations including accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger functions. Additionally, this position will manage accounting process, internal controls, staffing and escalation of complex or cross-functional issues, and provide guidance in accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance and audit outcomes.
Essential Functions
Internal
This position has the supervisory responsibility for the Supervisor of General Accounting and those reporting divisions.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a standard office environment. Frequent long hours due to deadlines and seasonal workloads. Occasional travel to seminars outside the state.
Minimum Qualifications And Experience
Education
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance or related discipline, required. Certified Public Account license preferred. Additional specialized training in computer science, financial management and economics, preferred.
Experience
Five (5) years of progressive experience, including supervisory, in accounting and financial management, required. Experience in financial reporting software, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards, required. Experience working in a utility/union environment, preferred.

The Manager, Accounting will manage the general accounting operations including accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger functions. Additionally, this position will manage accounting process, internal controls, staffing and escalation of complex or cross-functional issues, and provide guidance in accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance and audit outcomes.
Essential Functions
- Manage and operate the performance and integrity of general accounting, including accounts payable, payroll and general ledger in accordance with utility practice and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Manage and review the accounting close functions and verify consistency.
- Create, maintain and review accounting processes and internal controls, that align with leadership guidance.
- Provide technical support under recognized accounting principles, escalating review to leadership.
- Primary liaison for audits; including coordination of response, resolution of issues and remediation of findings.
- Oversee account reconciliation standards and resolution of reconciliation items, resolve issues and outline reformed practices.
- Review and interpret financial results; including actual-to-budget variances and communicate findings.
- Develop, propose and secure approval of department organizational structure and staffing to meet operating requirements and to anticipate future needs. This includes appropriate business process analysis required to support necessary organizational changes.
- Manage labor-related accounting compliance in alignment with union agreements, payroll law and related policies.
- Coordinate with Regulatory, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), and Plant Accounting to support rate filings, compliance submission and reporting accuracy.
- Review and recommend system enhancements and automation initiatives, to improve control, efficiency and auditability.
- Serve as contact point for accounting execution issues, resolve division impacts and elevate in alignment with leadership.

- Bargaining Unit Representatives
- External auditors: Coordinate with, provide and exchange information with.
- State and Federal Agencies: Provide and exchange information with, Make inquiries and review for compliance.
- Ability to produce accurate financial records and adhere to GAAP and regulatory guidelines.
- Demonstrate expertise in accounting principles and industry-specific financial practices.
- Effective leadership by fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment through guidance, training and mentorship.
- Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy in financial analysis and reporting.
- Proven ability to apply best practices and automation tools to optimize workflows, improve accuracy, and reduce financial risks.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing.
- Proven ability to uphold ethical and professional conduct.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, with proficiency in Excel.
- Knowledge of internal controls and risk management.
